Welcome, North American Vexillological Association

The North American Vexillological Association – Association nord-américaine de vexillologie (NAVA) is one of the world’s premiere flag studies organizations. Founded in 1967 it is one of twelve charter members of FIAV.

The association publishes the scholarly journal Raven, and has made freely available online nearly all of its contents, including four book-length special issues that should be part of any vexillological library. It also hosts an annual meeting in various cities across the US and Canada; the 50th of these major flag conferences will take place in San Jose, California on 14-16 October 2016.

We are honored to have their endorsement and participation in World Vexillology Day.

Welcome, Italian Center of Vexillological Studies

The Italian Center of Vexillological Studies (Centro Italiano Studi Vessillologici — CISV) is our 13th sponsor.  Benvenuto!

CISV was established in 1972, and joined the International Federation of Vexillological Associations (FIAV) the following year. Their website includes a colorful catalog of vexillological associations and their flags (in Italian).

And we are happy to share this news: CISV will be joining their compatriots in Bandiere Storiche to organize an event in Milan to celebrate World Vexillology Day this October 1. The event webpage is www.cisv.it/milano16.html

Welcome, Flag Data Center

The Flag Data Center (Středisko vexilologických informací — SVI) maintains an extensive repository of information on municipal flags in the Czech Republic on their website vexi.info.  (A small subset of these can currently be seen on our Welcome Page.)  Established in 1994, SVI became a member of FIAV, the International Federation of Vexillological Associations, in 2003.

We welcome SVI as the twelfth sponsor of World Vexillology Day!

Welcome, Heraldica Slovenica

NOTE: Heraldica Slovenica recently adopted a new flag.

We welcome Heraldica Slovenica (the Heraldry Society of Slovenia) as the latest sponsor of and participant in World Vexillology Day.  Here is their announcement:

Heraldica Slovenica annually holds a Slovenian Flag Day celebration on 7 April at the geographical center of Slovenia. In addition to Slovenian patriotic activities we strongly support the idea of World Vexillology Day. On 1 October we will share knowledge about the world’s flags and also organize a Vexiday event in the capital Ljubljana.

We recommend the initiative to all other vexillological associations and believe that flags deserve their world flag day.

Heraldica Slovenica prireja 7. aprila vsakoletno slovesnost ob dnevu slovenske zastave na Geometričnem središču Slovenije. Društvo poleg patriotske aktivnosti močno podpira idejo o svetovnem zastavoslovnem dnevu, se bo zavzelo za populariziranje vede in 1. oktobra organiziralo veksilološki dan v Ljubljani.

Vsem zastavoslovnim združenjem toplo priporočamo iniciativo in menimo, da si zastave zaslužijo svoj svetovni praznik.

Welcome, Greater Unified Albany Vexillological Association (GUAVA)

GUAVA, the Greater Albany Unified Vexillology Association, is a recently formed group of flag enthusiasts in Albany, Oregon. They say, “We are a group of individuals assembled to study flags and ultimately to create a lasting symbol to unite our community in the form of a very well designed flag.” We welcome their support of and participation in World Vexillology Day!

Welcome, Southern African Vexillological Association

Flag study organizations from North America, Europe, and Oceania are sponsoring World Vexillology Day, and today we add Africa to this growing list.  We welcome the endorsement and participation of the Southern African Vexillological Association (SAVA)!

A member organization of FIAV, SAVA covers the Southern African countries of Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Welcome, New Zealand Flag Assocation

We are happy to announce that the New Zealand Flag Association (NZFA) is supporting World Vexillology Day. They are the first FIAV member in Oceania, indeed in the Southern Hemisphere, to announce their support.
